The Innovation & Networking Office of I-SENSE/ICCS, in collaboration with digiGOV innoHUB, successfully organized the second online Knowledge Valorisation Workshop titled: “Intellectual Property Rights & Regulatory Framework – Exploitation Strategies and Compliance”, held on April 7, 2025.
The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of key principles related to intellectual property (IP) management, as well as strategies for protecting and commercially exploiting research results. Special emphasis was given to the regulatory landscape and the respective compliance requirements, particularly in the field of medical technology.
The event was opened with a welcome address by Dr. Angelos Amditis, Director of I-SENSE/ICCS and R&D Director of ICCS. Giorgos Megas, Head of the Innovation & Networking Office of I-SENSE/ICCS, presented the office’s activities related to the exploitation of mature research results and the promotion of innovation.
Keynote speaker, Ms. Ioanna Michalopoulou, a legal expert specialising in IP, data protection, clinical trials and medical technology, addressed key legal and practical aspects including:
- Intellectual Property rights: Different types of IP rights & protection processes
- Research results exploitation strategies: Technology licensing, knowledge transfer, spin-offs formation & partnerships with investors
- Regulatory framework and compliance: Core principles of regulations on data protection (GDPR), Artificial Intelligence (AI Act), cybersecurity measures (NIS2), medical devices (MDR), and the European Health Data Space (EHDS)
- EU product market access requirements: Key principles for manufacturers, CE marking procedures and liability for defective products
These presentations provided valuable insights and practical advice on IP protection and aligning innovative technologies with the applicable regulatory framework during their commercialization process.
