The ISENSE/ICCS Innovation and Networking Office, in collaboration with the digiGOV innoHUB, successfully organized the Knowledge Valorisation Workshop: Intellectual Property & Patents, held on March 7, 2025.
The workshop provided participants with an introduction to intellectual property, patents, and commercialization strategies for research and innovation. Experts discussed key principles of protection, patenting processes, and how researchers and companies can safeguard their innovations and bring them to market.
At the beginning of the event, the ISENSE/ICCS Innovation and Networking Office presented its ongoing activities and initiatives aimed at leveraging mature research results for commercial and societal impact.
A key highlight of the workshop was the presentation by Dr. Konstantinos Vavekis, European Patent Attorney and Director at PRAXI Network. His talk covered technology protection, trade secrets, patentability, and the European Patent Convention. Additionally, Dr. Vavekis provided valuable insights on:
- Patent Valuation Frameworks: Assessing patents based on economic, market, and legal criteria, considering factors such as economic value, competitive advantage, and legal protection.
- The European Patent Process: Analyzing the different stages of a European patent application, from submission and examination to opposition and final validation in national offices.
- Choosing the Right Patent Route: Weighing national, regional, and PCT options depending on strategic needs, including cost, speed, and scope of protection.
These insights helped participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the intellectual property landscape and the strategic considerations for patenting innovations.
– In the next period we will organise Knowledge Valorization Workshop Part2: Intangible asset protection, IPR, Licensing and various regulations (AI Act,MDR CE certification other).
