I-SENSE Group at the I2026 Gangneung ITS World Congress

The I-SENSE Group of ICCS is participating in the ITS World Congress 2026, one of the world’s leading events on intelligent transport systems and smart mobility which takes place from October 19-23, in Gangneung Olympic Park, Korea. Our team represented by Dr. Angelos Amditis, Research and Development Director of the Institute of Communication & Computer Systems (ICCS), Dr. Giannis Karaseitanidis, Dr. Evangelia Portouli and Evangelia Latsa senior researchers of the Institute of Communication & Computer Systems (ICCS) will contribute to several special interest sessions and a technical paper presentation, showcasing our work on AI, cooperative and connected automated mobility, and inclusive, sustainable urban transport.

Where to find us (all times KST)

Dr Angelos Amditis, also ERTICO’s (the co-organizer’s) Chairman, will participate and speak in a number of high level sessions, bilateral meetings etc, acting on his role as the ERTICO Chairman.

20 October 2026

On day two of the ITS World Congress, at 11:00 join us for SIS 16 on “AI for reliable perception, decision-making and control in CCAM” that explores what it takes for connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) to understand their surroundings well enough to be trusted. Dr Evangelia Portouli (I-SENSE Group, ICCS) will present HIDDEN, showing how V2X-based collective perception lets vehicles share sensor data to detect hidden pedestrians and cyclists, and how hybrid intelligence, combining AI with human judgement, supports safe, ethical and explainable driving decisions.

21 October 2026

At 11.00 , Executive Session 4 will cover ‘AI: The Good, The Bad and the Ungly’ and Dr Angelos Amditis will speak on behalf of ERTICO-ITS Europe and as an R&D Director of ICCS.

At 11:00-12:30 we join SIS 039: “Co-Creating Inclusive and Climate-Neutral Urban Mobility through ITS and Data-Driven Interventions”. This session, inspired by the ELABORATOR EU project, explores co-created and data-driven urban mobility interventions that support climate-neutral, safe, and inclusive cities. It showcases solutions such as smart enforcement, dynamic street-space allocation, shared mobility, and active and low-emission transport, with a focus on meeting the needs of diverse and vulnerable users. By bringing together researchers, cities, industry, and civil society, it aims to share practical lessons for scaling people-centred, equitable mobility solutions.

At 14:00-15:30 we contribute to SIS 047: “Orchestrating Multimodal Traffic in the CCAM Era through AI-Driven and Cooperative ITS”, a session organized by the CHORUS project. The session will explore how AI-driven and data-centric traffic management can coordinate automated vehicles, public transport, cycling, and other mobility modes in mixed-traffic environments. It will showcase practical solutions such as real-time traveler information, operator decision-support tools, and adaptive traffic control, while addressing challenges like data governance, interoperability, and cross-sector collaboration.

22 October 2026

At 14:00-15:30 we participate in SIS 077: “Women users of the mobility network: is it safe, safe enough?” This session looks at how women’s sense of safety on public and shared transport shapes their mobility and what the ITS community can do about it. Our Director, Dr Angelos Amditis, will open with a keynote as Chairman of ERTICO – ITS Europe on raising awareness of safety for women in transport. ICCS senior researcher Dr Evangelia Latsa will then share her perspective on the challenges women face in today’s mobility systems. Safe mobility for women is a global challenge, and this is a conversation the whole ITS community needs to have.

At 16:00-17:30, in Session STP013 (C-V2X interactions for cooperative safety), we present the EVENTS project paper, “Beyond Line of Sight: A Hybrid Validation Framework for V2X Collective Perception” by Dr. Markos Antonopoulos, Dr. Anastasia Bolovinou, Dr. Bill Roungas, Dr. Angelos Amditis and Dr. Elena Daskalaki which will be presented by Dr. Evangelia Portouli.

EVENTS project built a robust and resilient perception and decision-making system for connected and automated vehicles, so they keep operating safely despite sensor failures, communication gaps and unexpected road events.

We look forward to exchanging ideas with researchers, industry, public authorities and fellow innovators from around the world.
