Best presentation award for the paper “Embedded intelligence for safety and security machine vision applications”

We are happy to announce that the paper “Embedded intelligence for safety and security machine vision applications” submitted by ISENSE researchers and TEKNIKER under the EU research project S4AllCities has received the best presentation award. The paper was presented in the 21st International Conference on IMAGE ANALYSIS AND PROCESSING (ICIAP) –  HBAxSCES workshop.

The paper discusses how the embedded intelligent systems with computer vision and edge computing capabilities are able to contribute to public safety in smart cities. More specifically, two embedded edge camera systems are presented that adopt sophisticated hardware components and state-of-the-art lightweight object detection deep learning schemes. Both systems are integrated with the proposed Distributed Edge Computing Internet of Things (DECIoT) platform that exploits open source microservices and modern and cross platform programming languages. Extended experiments were carried out and the performance of the object detection algorithms was evaluated via objective qualitative and quantitative metrics. The results highlight the potential of the proposed systems proving their suitability and efficiency for real-word applications with several challenges in smart cities.
