From research to real-world innovation: highlights from the Clusters Meet Regions Lab Visit

On 7 October, our Research Group welcomed participants of the Clusters Meet Regions 2026 to the Cognisensus facility in Koropi for an engaging afternoon of technology demonstrations, knowledge exchange and networking.

The visit brought together members of Europe’s innovation community to discover how research infrastructures can bring advanced technologies closer to practical applications, fostering collaboration between research, industry and the wider innovation ecosystem.

The programme featured:

  • Welcome remarks from ICCS Director Prof. Ioannis Psarras, ICCS Research Director and Director of the I-Sense Group, Dr. Angelos Amditis, and Mr. Petros Podaras, organizer of the Clusters Meet Regions event.
  • An introduction to Cognisensus spin off, presented by Chatziioannou, offering participants an overview of the facility and its activities.
  • Guided tours to the facilities, showcasing the collaborative line, wearable technologies, industrial robots and rapid prototyping laboratory, with participants getting a closer look at the technologies and capabilities available at the site.
  • Insights into I-SENSE research activities, with Ouzounoglou presenting the work of the I-SENSE Health & Security Divisions and a pitch presentation of the Theseus project.

The visit highlighted the value of Test Before Invest facilities in bridging the gap between research and market adoption — enabling technologies to be explored, tested and demonstrated in environments closer to real-world conditions.

A big thank you to all speakers, participants and organisers for their contributions and for making this visit a valuable opportunity to connect expertise, share knowledge and explore potential collaborations!  We are proud to have contributed to Clusters Meet Regions 2026, strengthening connections across Europe’s innovation ecosystem and showcasing the role of applied research in translating technological advances into real-world impact.
