The Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) has recently become a member of ETSI, the global community developing standards for information and communication technologies.
ETSI is the European Telecommunication Standards Institute. The organization provides an open, inclusive and collaborative environment for the development and testing of globally applicable standards for ICT-enabled systems, services and applications. Uniting over 950 members across more than 60 countries, ETSI is a front-runner in producing standards and specifications for telecommunications and other digital technologies that industry, citizens and communities depend on daily. As a European Union recognised European Standardisation Organisation (ESO), ETSI plays a leading role in creating technology standards for 5G, machine-to-machine / IoT and more, supporting European regulatory policymaking as well as the wider global market. ETSI members benefit from opportunities to participate directly in standards development, access the latest technology developments and network with industry leaders.
For ICCS, membership creates an opportunity to bring research results into the technical discussions that shape future standards. ICCS researchers can contribute to ETSI technical groups, receive feedback from industry and other experts, and help develop specifications that support interoperability and wider adoption.
ETSI’s work spans areas of particular relevance to research: AI assurance and evaluation; cybersecurity and resilience; data spaces and interoperability; 6G, edge technologies and automation; and secure communications for critical infrastructure. Participation can help turn advances in these fields into shared methods, architectures and frameworks that others can build upon.
