This Friday marked an exciting milestone for the I-SENSE Group as two intelligent cybersorting systems, designed and built in our laboratories in Athens, have started their journey to Spain, where they will soon be deployed and validated in real operational environments.
Developed within the European projects PLASTICE and REDOL, these AI-powered systems combine artificial intelligence, advanced sensing technologies and automation to revolutionise the way waste is sorted and valuable materials are recovered.
Every year, millions of tons of recyclable materials are lost because waste streams remain difficult to identify and separate. Our goal is to change that. What we develop in the laboratory must work reliably in real industrial environments. These installations are a critical step towards large-scale adoption.
The PLASTICE cybersorter is designed to identify complex plastic waste streams in real time, improving material recovery and supporting a truly circular plastics economy. Together with the REDOL cybersorter, these installations demonstrate how European research is moving from innovation to real-world impact.
More than 2,500 kilometres separate Athens from Zaragoza and Asturias —but innovation knows no borders.
We’re proud to see our technologies leaving the lab and entering the next phase: delivering smarter, cleaner and more sustainable waste management solutions across Europe.
Huge congratulations to everyone involved in making this milestone possible, and especially to our Intelligent Industrial Manufacturing Systems (IIMS) division!
