Our team was delighted to once again take part in the European Researchers’ Night – the annual celebration of science and research that brings the public closer to the exciting world of research across the country.
On Friday, September 26th, the Zografou Campus came alive with scientists, experiments, games, new technologies, and hundreds of citizens and children eager to learn, have fun, and discover the latest research innovations.
This year, our participation was more dynamic than ever, with a series of interactive activities, games, and applications that showcased the role of research in everyday life.
At our booth, visitors had the chance to:
-
Test their knowledge in a quiz inspired by our technologies, winning notebooks and pencils as souvenirs.
-
Explore the fascinating world of sensors through a fun competition and learn about the THETIDA project, which leverages sensor technology to safeguard coastal and underwater cultural heritage.
-
Discover Urban Releaf, a citizen science platform where residents contribute with sensors to tackle urban challenges such as heat, humidity, lack of greenery, and air pollution.
-
Learn about recycling in the most engaging way through the Immerge application and an augmented reality game.
-
Experience up close the rescue robotic dog from the 6G-VERSUS project, capable of entering hard-to-reach areas, streaming live video, locating missing persons, and delivering first aid supplies.
The turnout at the I-SENSE booth exceeded all expectations, with both young and old particularly fascinated by the rescue robotic dog. For us, it was a unique opportunity to share with the public the research and technologies we develop with passion and dedication.
Such initiatives are more than just events – they inspire young researchers, spark curiosity, and make scientific knowledge accessible to society at large. By transforming research into play, we bring science closer to people’s everyday lives and open the path for future innovators.
Congratulations to our researchers for taking part: Katerina Georgiou, Apostolos Gatzogias, Thanasis Douklias, Dionysis Bitas, Angie Kantzou, Irini Krimpa
