The International Symposium “Navigating the Future of Traffic Management” sets the scene for a global dialogue and exchange in Athens

The International Symposium “Navigating the Future of Traffic Management” sets the scene for a global dialogue and exchange in Athens From 29th June to 3rd July, Athens hosts the International Symposium on “Navigating the Future of Traffic Management”, organized locally by the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in collaboration with leading global and European organisations at the forefront of traffic management research and operations. As a fundamental pillar of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Traffic Management Systems play a crucial role in ensuring safer and more efficient mobility. With global collaboration and innovation shaping the future of transport, this symposium will unite top experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss emerging trends, technological breakthroughs, and strategic solutions for modern traffic management.

Experts from multiple continents will share their insights, offering diverse perspectives on global challenges and best practices in traffic management. The Supporting International Partners include a diverse range of organizations dedicated to advancing transportation and infrastructure development. These partners include the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI), ASECAP, AustriaTech, and the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR), ERTICO and ERTICO TM2.0, along with the European Commission DG MOVE, Hellastron, and other global industry leaders such as the the Transportation Research Board (TRB), International Bridge, Tunnel, and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) and the International Road Federation (IRF), ITS Nationals, and PIARC (World Road Association) all of which play a crucial role in shaping the future of roads and transport systems worldwide. “Traffic Management Technologies are already reshaping the fundamental principles of urban mobility. Innovations emerging around the world are demonstrating the potential to turn congestion into flow—ushering in smarter, cleaner, and more human-centered urban transport systems. And this June, the pulse of these technologies will beat at the heart of Athens” says Dr. Angelos Amditis, the Symposium’s chair, ERTICO-ITS Europe Chairman and R&D Director of ICCS of the National Technical University of Athens.

Bringing together more than 100 international speakers and representatives from leading institutions in transport, technology, and public policy The symposium will cover five key tracks shaping modern transportation management. The Symposium will spotlight innovative solutions to some of the most persistent urban challenges — including traffic congestion, road safety, environmental sustainability, and the integration of smart infrastructure. Topics will include intelligent traffic signal systems, dynamic toll pricing, real-time traffic monitoring, and integrated traffic control platforms.

The programme will feature keynote addresses from globally recognized experts, interactive panel discussions, joint technical workshops, poster sessions, and site visits — all designed to foster interdisciplinary exchange and stimulate innovation. From 1 July to 2 July 2025, attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with the latest advancements in the sector through a dedicated technology exhibition that will run in parallel, featuring some of the world’s leading companies in the field of traffic management, infrastructure, data platforms, and smart mobility services including, among others, Highway Software, ARMIS, the NTUA Road Safety Observatory, SALFO, SWARCO, SHMA & Triple Sign, the Chinese Delegation, MOBITO, Q&S Ltd., INLECOM, VITRONIC, IMET, IRF, Milligan, NTUA, PSM, PTV Group, Q&S, Beijing General Municipal Engineering etc.

“In a time of pressing global challenges — from road safety and congestion to climate change and the integration of multimodal transport systems — the Symposium will serve as a critical platform for dialogue and cooperation. Especially for the Greek reality, it will highlight the importance of international collaboration and encourages stakeholders to move beyond traditional traffic management models, embracing forward-looking, data-driven, and usercentric approaches. The Symposium aspires to mark a major milestone in advancing knowledge, strengthening cross-sectoral partnerships, and accelerating the deployment of smart, sustainable, and resilient mobility systems” marks Dr Amditis. The event is taking place under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance, the Attica Region and the Representation of the European Commission in Greece.
