The I-SENSE Group of ICCS – NTUA proudly participated in the ITS World Congress 2025, held in Atlanta, USA, from 24–28 September, bringing forward groundbreaking research and European perspectives to the global Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) community.
The ITS World Congress 2025, held in Atlanta, Georgia, from 26 to 28 August 2025, was organized by ERTICO – ITS Europe, in partnership with ITS America and ITS Asia-Pacific. As the world’s leading event on smart mobility and the digitalization of transport, the Congress gathered policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and innovators from across the globe. The program featured plenary sessions, technical and scientific presentations, exhibitions, live demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies, and networking opportunities, all focused on advancing safer, more efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions.
This year’s Congress was a truly global hub of innovation and collaboration, and ICCS researchers were actively engaged in high-level sessions, technical discussions, and project presentations.
Highlights of ICCS Contributions
Opening Ceremony and plenary sessions: ICCS Director Dr Angelos Amditis, in his capacity as Chairman of ERTICO – ITS Europe, represented the European voice in front of the international ITS community. He also contributed in a number of plenary sessions and engaged in high-level debates on how AI and emerging technologies can strengthen resilience, how CCAM and infrastructure innovation can enhance traffic efficiency and safety, and why collaborative approaches are critical to ensure ITS developments truly serve safety and society.
AASHTO International Day: Dr Amditis emphasized how combining Traffic Management as a Service (TMSO) with the Safe System Approach can accelerate progress towards Vision Zero and safer mobility systems worldwide.
Evangelia (Geli) Latsa contributed to the session PS07: Equity ITS Solutions, highlighting the importance of equity, inclusion, and privacy in the deployment of intelligent transport solutions, and in the session SIS66: Traffic Efficiency and Safety Through CCAM: Enhancing Physical and Digital Infrastructure (PDI) in Europe, Canada and the US.
Connected & Automated Mobility (CCAM): Dr. Evangelia Portouli presented innovative results from the ENVELOPE and MOSAIC EU-funded projects, demonstrating how multi-connectivity and resilient communications can enable safer and more reliable CCAM systems. She contributed in the sessions IF2: Next-Generation Traffic Management and CCAM Integration and in the SIS10: Space Based Technologies for PNT in Road Mobility – The European Perspective.
The ITS World Congress in Atlanta was not just a showcase of technology, but a platform for collaboration and dialogue. For ICCS, it was an opportunity to reinforce its commitment to advancing smart, connected, inclusive, and safe mobility — in Europe and beyond.
