It has been an exciting week for the future of mobility and a truly inspiring experience for all ISENSE researchers at ICCS who travelled to Middle East and Dubai to participate in the plenaries and technical sessions of 30th ITS World Congress showcasing innovative research results and representing the European vision for mobility in a global audience.
- Angelos Amditis – ICCS’s R& D director and also ERTICO’s chairman- had the honour to open the stage for one of the most successful ITS Congresses and welcome more than 25.000 attendees – royals, ministers and senior decision makers- to a 5 days experience of a bright future for global mobility. Had a leading participation not only in a number of plenaries, international forums, summit and bilateral meetings but also in key ERTICO new initiatives and that highlight a future for mobility shaped by global synergies and collaboration pointing to the pivotal role of emerging technologies and ecosystems -such as AI and Drone technology- in advancing safety and sustainability within our transportation networks.
- Outstanding contributions on the non technical aspects of Automated Mobility and on CCAM enablers such as PDI developments by Dr Panagiotis Lytrivis, Dr Giannis Karaisetanidis and Dr Evangelia Portouli who presented work at the PODIUM and ELABORATOR project (RP3 and SIS59)
- Sustainable and safe urban mobility for all: Is it Reality or illusion? Dr Evangelia Portouli and Dr Giannis Karaisetanidis contributed to the discussion pointing to a need for cities to act as experimentation and innovation ecosystems in the transition to become climate-neutral new urban mobility (SIS24)
- How can we achieve smart and decarbonised freight transport? Giannis Kannelopoulos participated in the relevant session contributing to the pivotal debate on shaping the future of logistics and supply chains to accelerate the global transition to decarbonized freight transport.
- How to book, and pay for EV Charging? Policies that need to be fair and inclusive, success stories, challenges and opportunities were discussed by Christina Anagnostopoulou and with Gely Latsa. From European projects (e.g. our eCharge4Drivers) and national initiatives, experts shared their knowledge, and helped the audience see the great industrial opportunities ahead of us.
- The way to achieving smart and decarbonised freight transport passes through the latest advances of EU research in multimodal network and traffic management. Giannis Kanellopoulos (SIS90) pointed to the strategic dimensions of integrating passenger and freight transport in a single federated system with DELPHI and discussed on concepts and results from other EU-funded research projects – such as SYNCHROMODE and FRONTIER – dealing with relevant topics and case studies.
- Welcoming more than 100 ministers and senior decision makers across the word in the ITS Summit, Angelos Amditis pointed to a need for global indicators to reflect the urgency for the mobility stakeholders to attain sustainability goals and the need to be able to measure the impact of the mobility transition.
