I-SENSE Group at the 10th ITS Hellas Conference 2025: Driving Innovation in Intelligent Transport Systems

The I-SENSE research group of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS/NTUA) had a strong and active presence at the 10th ITS Hellas Conference 2025, held in Athens on May 7–8, a highly successful event that brought together key stakeholders from policy, research, and industry across Greece and abroad.

Dr. Angelos Amditis, Vice President of ITS Hellas, Chairman of ERTICO – ITS Europe, and Research and Development Director at ICCS/NTUA, opened the conference, emphasizing the importance of interoperability, cross-sectoral collaboration, and strategic investment in innovation as key drivers for a sustainable and digitally transformed transport future.

The conference also featured opening remarks from high-ranking government officials, including the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, the Deputy Minister for Development and Research Stavros Kalafatis, the EU Committee of the Regions’ Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the Secretary General for Transport Despina Paliarouta, and the Secretary General for Information Systems and Digital Governance Dimosthenis Anagnostopoulos, all of whom stressed the strategic significance of intelligent transport systems in enabling digitalization and green transition.

Participation in Session 4 – Intelligent Transport Infrastructure Development

The conference’s agenda addressed current and critical issues in the development of ITS. I-SENSE had a prominent role in Session 4, titled “Intelligent Transport Infrastructure Development”, which was moderated by Vassilis Sourlas, a key member of our team. The session focused on real-world applications of ITS to address transportation management challenges and evaluated the progress made in Greece regarding the implementation of smart infrastructure.

Of particular note was the presentation by Giannis Kanellopoulos (Head of the Supply Chain & Maritime Transport Unit, I-SENSE/ICCS/NTUA), who, together with Sofoklis Daes from the Laboratory of Freight Transport and Logistics of CERTH/HIT, presented the current state and future steps for implementing the European eFTI Regulation (Electronic Freight Transport Information) in Greece—highlighting the path toward a digitally integrated and greener logistics chain.

Participation in Session 5 – Electromobility and Charging Infrastructure

Additionally, the I-SENSE ecosystem was represented in Session 5 through Panagiotis Lytrivis (CIBOS), who showcased the EVerywhere platform, an innovative solution for managing electric vehicle charging infrastructure—an example of applied innovation supporting electromobility in Greece.

Strategic Contribution to the Conference’s Structure and Organization

Beyond content contributions, I-SENSE/ICCS played a central role in the scientific planning and organizational execution of the event. The conference was co-organized with the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) of CERTH, under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Digital Governance, and the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation.

As a Gold Sponsor, I-SENSE Group/ICCS provided essential support to both the scientific and organizational aspects of the event, affirming its leadership position in the European ITS landscape.

The 10th ITS Hellas Conference offered yet another important opportunity to disseminate I-SENSE Group’s work and outcomes—reaffirming our commitment to being at the forefront of innovation and smart mobility.
