The eBRT2030 consortium gathered in Istanbul from 22–23 October for its General Assembly, hosted by IETT and co-organised by UITP. Partners, demo leaders and the Advisory Board reviewed progress and set priorities for the next phase of the project, with a strong focus on delivering cleaner, smarter electric bus rapid transit solutions.
Our team was represented by Dr. Evangelos Karvounis, who presented the Athens demonstration plan, milestones and objectives. The Athens EBRT line will pilot a hybrid charging concept, combining existing trolleybus catenary and depot charging to support a flexible electric fleet mix. Hybrid e-BRT buses equipped with pantographs and on-board chargers will be able to charge on the move, making the most of Athens’ existing infrastructure.
The 4 km route will connect Fix metro station in the city centre with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on the Athens Riviera, operating along the Syggrou corridor — one of the busiest urban axes in the capital.
Throughout the two-day meeting, demo cities — including Prague, Barcelona, Rimini, Amsterdam and Bogotá — shared progress on predictive maintenance, energy efficiency and smart charging solutions. Participants also joined a technical visit to Istanbul’s Metrobus system, exploring large-scale BRT operations up close.
