Dr. Angelos Amditis, R&D Director of ICCS and founder of the I-SENSE Group, participated as an invited speaker in the session of the Special Permanent Committee on Research and Technology of the Hellenic Parliament, titled:
“New technologies leading the traceability of agricultural products and the operation of Digital Product Passports.”

The session also featured Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, Minister of Digital Governance, and Dr. Xanthoula Irini Pantazi, Associate Professor at the Department of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

During his presentation, Dr. Amditis highlighted the role of emerging digital technologies — including material analysis sensors, satellite data, IoT technologies, and Digital Product Passports (DPPs) — in ensuring transparency, authenticity and reliability across the agri-food supply chain.

As he emphasized: “A national traceability system for agricultural products is required, leveraging modern digital technologies to strengthen consumer trust and enhance the competitiveness of Greek agricultural production.”

The presentation also showcased results from several European research projects coordinated by the I-SENSE Group, including THEROS, Wood2Wood, MASTERMINE, DigInTrace and SecureAgData, which develop advanced digital solutions for traceability and sustainable value chains.

The discussion highlighted the importance of leveraging research and innovation to develop reliable traceability systems, which constitute a key tool for the sustainability of the agri-food sector and for aligning with emerging European policies on sustainability and the circular economy.
