CiROCCO EU Project: Highlights from the 3rd Plenary Meeting in Cairo

The CiROCCO EU Project, coordinated by ICCS, marked a significant milestone with its 3rd Plenary Meeting, held in Cairo from May 20-22, 2025. The event was hosted by the Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE).

The project has now entered an exciting and challenging phase: the on-site deployment of CiROCCO’s advanced sensing solutions in harsh and undersampled desert environments. This stage required important decisions to be made, shaping the future direction of the project.

A key highlight was the 5th CiROCCO Stakeholders’ Workshop, organized on May 21. This workshop provided an invaluable opportunity for attendees to engage directly with prominent local stakeholders, whose interests and expertise align closely with the project’s goals and anticipated outcomes.

On May 22, participants enjoyed a field visit to The British University in Egypt’s Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering (FEEE), where they were warmly welcomed and guided by the Dean, Professor Attia M. Attia.

Special appreciation is extended to local partners, Prof. Hesham El-Askary and Dr. Omar Elbadawy, for their dedication and support in ensuring the success of these events and for making the team’s stay in Cairo truly memorable.

The CiROCCO team looks forward to building on this momentum and achieving the next set of project goals.
