About Us

I-SENSE is one of the Research Groups of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS). I-SENSE Group is very active in a number of Scientific and Research Areas with main Application Areas the Intelligent Transportation Systems, Virtual Environments, Assistive Technologies, Smart Integrated Systems - Sensors, Communication, Platforms. I-SENSE is involved in a number of EC and National Research Projects and has a significant presence in International Conferences and Scientific Journals. It is also involved in the organisation of important events, workshops and conferences. I-SENSE is cooperating with some of the most important Research Organisations and Industries all over Europe. I-SENSE group was founded in February 2002 by the ICCS Research Director Dr. Angelos Amditis and has as members a number of highly qualified Researchers and Technicians. Administratively belongs to the Microwaves and Fiber Optics Laboratory (MFOL) which is a common lab of ICCS and NTUA. I-SENSE Group uses the infrastructure of MFOL and possesses the experience and its human resources from MFOL’s previous research activities which aim to continue and expand.

Who we are

I-SENSE is one of the Research Groups of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, founded in February 2002 as continuation of various smaller research groups already active from the early ‘90s. I-SENSE is associated with the Microwaves and Fibre Optics Laboratory (MFOL) and with a number of other Labs of ICCS. ICCS is a non-profit Academic Research Body established in 1989 by the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, its linked to the National and technical University of Athens and is the research host of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)

Purpose of Data Processing

I-SENSE Group basic scope is to promote Research and Development activities in the following areas:

  • Modern Telemetry;
  • QoS-aware Middleware services;
  • PaaS, SaaS, Cloud Computing;
  • Next generation VoIP;
  • Emergency communications;
  • Design of Radar Systems;
  • Computer Vision and Detection;
  • Sensor-based situational awareness;
  • Machine Learning and recommender systems;
  • Digital Security;
  • IoT and Wearables;
  • Virtual and Augmented Reality;
  • Automated Driving and Automation in Transport;
  • Cooperative ITS;
  • Electromobility and Smart Grid;
  • Human Factors in Connected and Automated Driving.

I-SENSE group participates in National and European research initiatives and projects as well as in industrial projects and has a significant presence in the organisation of international conferences in several areas of research.

Taking into consideration the above, I-SENSE collects information and personal data about you upon registration to our newsletter mailing list in the following ways:

  • To send you newsletter mail outs, invitations to events or to speak at meetings and conferences.
  • To invite you to participate in ongoing surveys, open consultations, technical committees and fora.
  • To send you notifications containing key findings/developments of EU-funded and National R&D projects of which I-SENSE is a partner.

If you consent to the processing of your personal data for the above mentioned purposes, the categories of personal data that will be collected and stored in the I-SENSE Data Warehouse are:

  • your email (mandatory);
  • your full name (mandatory);
  • your affiliation (mandatory);
  • your job title (optional);

I-SENSE will process the personal data of subjects according to the present statement and for the purposes declared herein.

Security of Processing

The security and protection of your personal data is very important for I-SENSE. I-SENSE has undertaken all appropriate organisational and technical measures to secure that the data that are collected in the framework of the present declaration is processed according to the legislation for the protection and storage of your personal data for a period of 5 years after the last update of your subscription.

We take appropriate measures to ensure that all personal data is kept secure including security measures to prevent personal data from being accidentally lost, or used or accessed in an unauthorised way. Those processing your information will do so only in an authorised manner and are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

Exercise of your rights

It is noted that according to the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016), you may exercise the following rights that derive from the Regulation:

  • Right of access and right to rectification for inaccurate personal data
  • Right to erasure of personal data if they are not necessary for service provision
  • Right to restrict processing of your data
  • Right to object to the processing of your data
  • Right to data portability, namely right to receive your data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable form so that they can be transferred to another data processor.
  • Additionally, you have the right to submit a written complaint to the responsible supervisory body for personal data protection in each country.

How to complain

We hope that we can resolve any query or concern you raise about our use of your information.

The General Data Protection Regulation also gives you right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the European Union (or European Economic Area) state where you work, normally live or where any alleged infringement of data protection laws occurred.

1        I-SENSE Group Website Privacy Policy

Analytics.iccs.gr is running the specialized software Matomo (https://matomo.org) for keeping usage statistics of the websites, it is hosting. Matomo is installed in the ICCS’s servers and its data remain in that server.

1.1    About I-SENSE Group and Matomo

I-SENSE is one of the Research Groups of the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, founded in February 2002 as continuation of various smaller research groups already active from the early ‘90s. I-SENSE is associated with the Microwaves and Fibre Optics Laboratory (MFOL) and with a number of other Labs of ICCS.

The I-SENSE Group website is hosted by the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) - http://www.iccs.gr. ICCS is a non-profit Academic Research Institute established in 1989 by the Greek Ministry of Education in order to carry out research and development activity in the area of telecommunication systems and techniques, computer systems, and their applications in a variety of areas such as transceivers, radar and generally electromagnetic sensors, satellite and wireless communications, electromagnetic phenomena modelling, software and hardware engineering and control systems.

Matomo is an open source web analytics platform. A web analytics platform is used by a website owner in order to measure, collect, analyse and report visitors data for purposes of understanding and optimizing their website. 1.2    Purpose of the processing

Matomo is used to analyse the behaviour of the website visitors to identify potential pitfalls; not found pages, search engine indexing issues, which contents are the most appreciated… Once the data is processed (number of visitors reaching a not found pages, viewing only one page…), Matomo is generating reports for website owners to take action, for example changing the layout of the pages, publishing some fresh content… etc.

The Matomo software installed in ICCS webserver is processing the following personal data:

  • Cookies
  • IP address
    • Before storing, we mask the visitors IP, by masking the its last byte. Therefore, the IP cannot used anymore for the identification of its user.
  • Location of the user
  • And also:
  • Date and time
  • Title of the page being viewed
  • URL of the page being viewed
  • URL of the page that was viewed prior to the current page
  • Screen resolution
  • Time in local timezone
  • Files that were clicked and downloaded
  • Link clicks to an outside domain
  • Pages generation time
  • Country, region, city
  • Main Language of the browser
  • User Agent of the browser

The processing of personal data with Matomo is based on explicit consent. Your privacy is our highest concern. That’s why we will not process any personal data with Matomo unless you give us clear explicit consent.

1.3    Recipient of the personal data

The personal data received through Matomo are sent to the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS).

1.4    Details of transfers to third country and safeguards

Matomo data is hosted in Greece.

1.5    Retention period or criteria used to determine the retention period

We are keeping the anonymized personal data captured within Matomo for a period of 5 years.

1.6    The existence of each of the data subject’s rights

As Matomo is processing personal data on legitimate interests, you can exercise the following rights:

  • Right of access: you can ask us at any time to access your personal data.
  • Right to erasure: you can ask us at any time to delete all the personal data we are processing about you.
  • Right to object: you can object to the tracking of your personal data by using the following opt-out feature:

1.7    The right to withdraw consent at any time

You can withdraw at any time your consent by enabling the “Do Not Track (DNT)” feature in your browser, which we honour.

1.8    The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

If you think that the way we process your personal data with Matomo analytics is infringing the law, you have the right to lodge a complaint at isense-privacy@iccs.gr.

1.9    Whether the provision of personal data is part of a statutory or contractual requirement; or obligation and possible consequences of failing to provide the personal data

If you wish us to not process any personal data with Matomo, you can opt-out from it at any time. There will be no consequences at all regarding the use of our website.

Matomo is not doing any profiling.
