We are delighted  to announce that a scientific paper by the SMAS team has been selected to receive one of the prestigious Best Paper Awards at the AHFE 2026 (Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics) International Conference, to be held in Istanbul.

The award-winning paper, entitled “A Taxonomy of Digital Twin Applications for Road Infrastructure Safety: A Human-Factors Perspective,” was authored by Katia Pagle, Anna Antonakopoulou, and Angelos Amditis.

The paper achieved this distinguished recognition among more than 1,100 international scientific submissions, standing out for its innovative approach to developing a taxonomy of digital twin applications for road infrastructure safety from a human-factors perspective.

The official award ceremony will take place during the Opening Session of the conference on 21 July 2026, where Katia Pagle will receive the award on behalf of the team.

Congratulations to all the authors on this outstanding academic achievement, which further highlights ICCS’s research excellence and reinforces its international reputation in cutting-edge transportation and human-centred digital innovation.
