We are delighted to announce that Dr Pavlos Basaras has been appointed as Vice President (Vice-Chair) of the ETSI Software Development Group OpenCAPIF (SDG OCF) for a two-year term. Pavlos is a Senior Researcher at I-SENSE/ICCS of NTUA and serves as INS (Intelligent Networks & Services) Division Sub-Leader, bringing deep expertise in network APIs, standards, and open-source development to this leadership role. As Vice President of SDG OpenCAPIF, Pavlos Basaras will contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the group, helping coordinate cross-industry collaboration and guiding the development of open-source software components that empower developers and operators to advance API ecosystems in next-generation networks.
It is also worth noting that Dimitris Fragkos (also I-SENSE Researcher) is already actively contributing to the work of SDG OpenCAPIF as a member of the Technical Steering Committee, further strengthening the group’s technical leadership and expertise.
About ETSI SDG OpenCAPIF
The ETSI Software Development Group OpenCAPIF (SDG OCF) focuses on the development of an open-source Common API Framework (CAPIF), as defined by 3GPP, designed to securely expose and consume APIs in a consistent manner across modern network environments. This initiative enables seamless interaction between network applications and underlying network services — a key enabler in 5G & Beyond network innovation, API interoperability, and multi-stakeholder ecosystem integration.
-
The group’s work supports collaboration with major standards bodies and projects, including 3GPP, TM Forum, ETSI ZSM, ETSI NFV, ETSI MEC, OpenSourceMANO, TeraFlowSDN, and OpenSlice, among others.
-
Participation in SDG OpenCAPIF is open to ETSI Members as well as non-members, including academic and research institutions, industry partners, SMEs, and individual contributors.
OpenCAPIF plays a pivotal role in advancing standards-aligned open source tooling that accelerates API-driven innovation in networks and services — bridging the gap between specification and practical implementation.
