Strengthening International Collaboration at IRF World Congress 2024 in Istanbul: Angelos Amditis meets Turkey’s Minister of Transport

Last week, Dr Angelos Amditis – ERTICO’ Chairman and ISENSE’s director- took part at the Ministerial Meeting at IRF World Congress in Istabul. Under the patronage of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Republic of Turkey, the Ministerial Meeting addressed the urgent need for sustainable and resilient transport systems, driving collective efforts towards a more secure and prosperous future for people, planet and economies. From 15 to 18 October, Dr Amditis and Ev.Latsa travelled to Istabul to attend and participate in the Congress. The high-profile event brought together global stakeholders to address the future of transportation, emphasizing advancements in road safety, infrastructure, and sustainability.

Angelos also contributed to the plenary ‘Enabling Partnerships for Resilient Societies & Economies & IRF Awards Ceremony’ and engaged in key discussions with Turkey’s Minister of Transport, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, during the 2024 IRF World Congress in Istanbul. The meeting between Dr. Amditis and Minister Uraloğlu underscored the shared commitment of ERTICO and Turkey towards building a global ecosystem for smart mobility. This partnership focuses on enhancing transportation systems to prioritize safety, efficiency, and resilience in the movement of people and goods. Dr. Amditis expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government and the Minister for hosting the Congress, acknowledging the significance of this event in driving forward-looking solutions and fostering cross-border cooperation in transport innovation.

A central theme in their discussion was the development of a connected and sustainable future for transportation, which is expected to benefit citizens worldwide. Dr. Amditis highlighted the importance of this collaboration for addressing critical challenges and seizing opportunities in intelligent transport systems (ITS). Their conversation further aligned on preparations for the ITS European Congress in 2026, where Istanbul will serve as the host city. This upcoming event promises to play a crucial role in shaping intelligent transport solutions on a global scale.

In the frame of the IRF World Congess, our Geli Latsa had the honour of moderating the session ‘TS74 – Traffic Management Systems & Operations’. The session sparked insightful discussions on the latest innovations and strategies in traffic management, with global experts sharing their perspectives on operational efficiency and the future of transportation.
