Είμαστε στην ευχάριστη θέση να ανακοινώσουμε τη διοργάνωση της Ημερίδας με θέμα: «New Global Routes: One Belt One Road Initiative & TEN-T», η οποία θα λάβει χώρα στις 6 Νοεμβρίου 2018 στο Υπουργείο Υποδομών και Μεταφορών (Αναστάσεως 2, Χολαργός, 156 69, Αθήνα) και αποτελεί συνδιοργάνωση της ευρωπαϊκής πλατφόρμας ETP-Alice, του Ερευνητικού Πανεπιστημιακού Ινστιτούτου Συστημάτων Επικοινωνιών και Υπολογιστών (ΕΠΙΣΕΥ) και του Υπουργείου Υποδομών και Μεταφορών.

Πρόκειται για μια πολύ σημαντική εκδήλωση για την ελληνική, ευρωπαϊκή και διεθνή εφοδιαστική αλυσίδα, με βασικό στόχο την ανταλλαγή και την διεύρυνση γνώσεων, εμπειριών και τεχνογνωσίας σχετικά με τις νέες εμπορευματικές διαδρομές που δημιουργούνται σε διεθνές επίπεδο, τις προκλήσεις που θα κληθούν να αντιμετωπίσουν όλοι οι εμπλεκόμενοι στην εφοδιαστική αλυσίδα φορείς, τις νέες ευκαιρίες που προκύπτουν για τις ευρωπαϊκές εταιρείες, καθώς και για τον πιθανό αντίκτυπο στις εμπορευματικές μεταφορές της Ευρώπης. Επιπλέον, θα αναζητηθεί σε ποιο βαθμό αυτές οι νέες διαδρομές θα μπορούσαν να επηρεάσουν τον τρόπο σχεδιασμού και προγραμματισμού του Διευρωπαϊκού Δικτύου Μεταφορών (ΤΕΝ-Τ)  και ποιο είδος τεχνικών βελτιώσεων και αναβαθμίσεων θα μπορούσε να μεγιστοποιήσει τα οφέλη.  Συγκεκριμένα θα λάβουν χώρα τρεις Συνεδρίες:

  • Συνεδρία 1. The Maritime Silk Road: 2030 Challenges, innovation and new paths  - Round Table Session, υπό τον συντονισμό του Δρ. Αγγελου Αμδίτη, Διευθυντή Έρευνας του ΕΠΙΣΕΥ
  • Συνεδρία 2. The Silk Road Economic Belt: Infrastructure, benefits and complementarity of rail to road transport - Round Table Session, υπό τον συντονισμό του κ. Fernando Liesa, Γενικού Γραμματέα της Πλατφόρμας ETP-ALICE
  • Συνεδρία 3. Disruptive technologies and their impact on the OBOR Initiative – Presentation session, υπό τον συντονισμό της κας Αθανασίας Τσέρτου, senior researcher του ΕΠΙΣΕΥ.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της πρώτης εισαγωγικής Συνεδρίας εξέχοντες ομιλητές από την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή (DG-MOVE), το Υπουργείο Υποδομών και Μεταφορών, το Υπουργείο Ναυτιλίας και Νησιωτικής Πολιτικής, την Ευρωπαϊκή Πλατφόρμα ETP-Alice, το ΕΠΙΣΕΥ και την ERTICO-ITS Europe θα παρουσιάσουν τις βασικές θέσεις και προσδοκίες της εκδήλωσης. Στη συνέχεια, σημαντικοί εκπρόσωποι της εφοδιαστικής αλυσίδας, θα παρουσιάσουν και θα συζητήσουν διεξοδικά τις τελευταίες εξελίξεις στον χώρο της εφοδιαστικής αλυσίδας πάντα με γνώμονα την ανάδειξη των μέγιστων ωφελειών για τις Ευρωπαϊκές εμπορευματικές μεταφορές.

Τις θεματικές της Διημερίδας θα πλαισιώσει παράλληλη έκθεση στον χώρο του Υπουργείου στην οποία θα παρουσιαστούν οι τελευταίες ερευνητικές και επιχειρηματικές καινοτομίες και λύσεις στον χώρο της Εφοδιαστικής Αλυσίδας και των Logistics. Η ημερίδα απευθύνεται σε φορείς εκμετάλλευσης λιμένων, εταιρείες μεταφοράς φορτίων, δημόσιους και ιδιωτικούς φορείς λειτουργίας και εκμετάλλευσης οδικών μεταφορών και μεταφορών σταθερής τροχιάς, εκπροσώπους της πανεπιστημιακής και ερευνητικής κοινότητας, διαχειριστικές αρχές, επαγγελματικές ενώσεις αλλά και τους τελικούς χρήστες.

 DSC3031The I-SENSE Group was participated with a stand at the European Researcher Night Event organized by the National and Technical University of Athens at the emblematic Averof building at the Patission historic complex, on Friday 28 September 2018. The I-SENSE Group area was constantly full of people -the room had a capacity of approx. 100 persons and it was full too- including numerous curious students eager to learn and experience. The numerous visitors had the opportunity to play with two Augmented Reality applications developed within the framework of two different European Research project, Scent (https://scent-project.eu/) and Pluggy (https://www.pluggy-project.eu/) and more about the importance of their contribution to the protection of the environment and the promotion of cultural heritage. The overall aim of the Group’s demonstrations was to increase citizens' participation in two areas of vital interest: the monitoring the changes taking place in our environment and the promotion of cultural heritage, respectively.

The XII installment of the CAD Webinar Series, dedicated to interACT project will take place on September 25th, 2018 on the topic of “Designing cooperating interactions of AVs with other road users - The interACT project”.

Dr. Angelos Amditis, I-SENSE Group Director, performed an opening speech during the opening ceremony of the 25th ITS World Congress, in Copenhangen, on 17 September 2018 during which, as ERTICO's chairman stressed the importance for a strong collaboration between all involed actors towards a safer, cleaner, more efficient and friendly to the citizens mobility.

The above event is part of the CIRC4Life project. The project will pay the cost of your participation in the event, including travel, hotel and meals.

The CIRC4Life (No 776503) is a project of three-years commencing May 2018 supported by the European Commission H2020 circular economy programme, with project budget of 7.3 million Euros.  The project will develop three new circular economy business models (CEBMs), including co-creation of product and services, sustainable consumption and collaborative recycling and reuse. The CEBMS will then be demonstrated in four industrial sectors including LED lighting products, vegetable farming, meat supply chain, and recycle/reuse of tablets.

On 29 May 2018, EU project PASSME held the PASSME Showcase at the Schiphol Head Office building in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. More than 125 experts from the aviation industry and media attended the event where the results of the PASSME project focusing on reducing unwanted air travel time and increasing the passenger experience were on display. Innovations on display at the Showcase included: PASSME innovative aircraft seat, PASSME cart, PASSME lighting projects, PASSME baggage research and the PASSME app. Watch the folloiwng video to learn more

As congestion, high costs and environmental concerns make personal car ownership in cities an increasingly frustrating experience, and as technology begins to offer more attractive alternatives, we are seeing a shift away from individual modes of transport towards alternative mobility solutions that are consumed as a service.

The shift towards Mobility as a Service (MaaS) comes on the back of changing public perceptions, with people increasingly viewing transport as something that they purchase upon demand and as a personalised mobility experience. This trend is underpinned by new mobility service providers such as ride-sharing and e-hailing services, bike- and car-sharing programmes, as well as on-demand bus services.

ERTICO, a private-public partnership of 120 members from the mobility sector, works toward the development of a pan-European MaaS service to ensure the seamless use of mobility in Europe. With this aim in mind, ERTICO has gathered 45 companies and organisations in one Innovation Platform to work towards making seamless mobility a reality.

The key concept behind MaaS is that it combines public, private and shared transport modes to provide multimodal, integrated and digital mobility solutions for people and goods based on their travel needs. The benefits of this are manifold and far-reaching. By removing hassle and providing choices in planning end-to-end journeys, MaaS allows consumers to travel in a way that suits them best. What’s more, as it integrates a number of different transport modes, MaaS solutions can potentially limit the number of vehicles on the roads and help reduce congestion and pollution in cities. One concern voiced about third-party transport services is that they will have a detrimental impact on traditional public transit. However, this is a misconception: by removing the first/last mile barrier and by more efficiently serving routes that typically require a higher level of public transit subsidy, complementary mobility solutions can increase the coverage and attractiveness of traditional transit services. MaaS can also ease the pressure on networks through more effective use of the existing infrastructure and the creation of economies of scale.

“The real beauty of Mobility as a Service is that it is now the end-user, the passenger, who decides. For the first time in the history of transport, it is not the user who should adapt his / her mobility behaviour based on the supply, but instead there are services responding to our actual mobility needs – and not only those of an anonymous average user. This is enabled by advanced technical solutions and synergetic co-existence of innovative and established transport services. By combining various transport services we can provide attractive mobility options also for those whose needs haven't been fulfilled by traditional public transit services. Integration here is the key word,” says Piia Karjalainen, coordinator of the MaaS Alliance at ERTICO – ITS Europe.

MaaS is made possible by combining transport services from public, private and shared transport providers through a common access point that allows travellers to create and manage their trips and pay for all of the different transport modes used from a single account.

MinRejseplan

One such access point is the new multi-modal MinRejseplan app, which is a new generation of the app known as Rejseplanen (JourneyPlanner). The MinRejseplan app allows travellers to plan their journey by using a range of transport and mobility modes, from trains, buses and the Metro, to city bikes, taxis, carpooling and car sharing.

By extending the current version of Rejseplanen’s systems and functionality, MinRejseplan provides a better choice between the various means of transportation and, as a completely new feature, it integrates both public and private mobility modes. In this way, it makes it easier for travellers to select green, mass modes of transportation.

MaaS in focus at ITS World Congress

The app will be available for download in the App Store and from Google Play from September 2018, right before the opening of the ITS World Congress and will be tested by delegates during the Congress week. In fact, MinRejseplan is a demonstration project at the Congress, and Copenhageners may get to keep the app if the test is a success and financing is found.

MaaS is one of the key topics at this year’s ITS World Congress, which will run from 17 to 21 September 2018 at the Bella Centre in Copenhagen. ITS is the world’s largest international congress for intelligent transport systems (ITS) and, this year the Congress expects to welcome more than 4,000 delegates, 10,000 attendees and 400 exhibitors from around the world.

The XI installment of the CAD Webinar Series is dedicated to L3Pilot EU project, its high-impact objectives and methodology for Piloting Automated Driving on European Roads.

L3Pilot is a European research project co-funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme. The project is led by Volkswagen AG and has the participation of other 34 partners who are committed to paving the way for broad automation driving tests with series vehicles in real-life traffic.

The technologies being tested cover a wide range of driving situations, including parking, overtaking on highways, and driving through urban intersections. The functionality of the automated systems is exposed to the variable conditions of everyday traffic, with about 100 vehicles and 1,000 drivers taking their hands off the wheel so that they can perform secondary tasks.

These tests will provide valuable data for evaluating the technical aspects and overall impact on traffic and society. L3Pilot is particularly concerned with user’s perspectives on automated driving, studying user acceptance and their driving and travel behaviours. Any driving systems being introduced to market require a set of rules for system engineering and safety validation. L3Pilot partners will define these requirements for automated systems, captured in a Code of Practice for automated driving functions.

Dr. Angelos Amditis, the I-SENSE Group Director, was unanimously elected as the new Chairman of ERTICO during the last annual General Assembly held at the Autoworld of Brussels, on 20 June 2018.

Taking the floor from the previous Chairman, Cees de Wijs, CEO of Dynniq, the newly elected Chairman delivered an inspiring speech, in which he particularly stressed the importance of transparency and cooperation and thanked all parties who have been deeply involved in shaping ERTICO's new strategy.

"I thank Cees de Wijs for his leadership of the Supervisory Board and his exceptional work for the ERTICO Partnership. We worked together and with the rest of the members of the Supervisory Board the last years to realize ERTICO's vision and strategy."

Angelos Amditis highlighted the importance of Partnership in ERTICO, committing to keep supporting its members with the help of the Supervisory Board and ERTICO staff. "I will pursue close collaboration with all ERTICO partners and the ERTICO Office in order to strengthen even more the ERTICO Partnership and in order to maintain (and even enhance –if possible-) its role as a key organisation for defining and developing further the future of transport, taking into account always the interests of all its sectors".

The General Assembly was a special moment to show gratitude to those who have actively participated in and contributed to ERTICO's work and who brought a significant contribution to the ERTICO community.

Our economies and our lives depend on the efficient movement of goods; movement that is underpinned by complex transport and logistics chains. But, while delivering goods from producer to end user, transport and logistics systems are under increasing pressure to deliver greater efficiency, more sustainability and improved cost-effectiveness. A number of initiatives from ERTICO – ITS Europe are addressing these challenges and creating the transport and logistics systems of tomorrow.

Transport and logistics are facing the same challenges as other sectors – the need to increase efficiency, improve sustainability and lower costs. For transport and logistics however, this is further compounded by the need to offer a better customer service in the face of growing customer expectations, and to ensure compliance with ever more stringent regulations.

One of the biggest transport problems globally is congestion, especially on the roads. Congestion costs Europe about 1 % of its GDP every year and is the cause of a large amount of carbon emissions. Another challenge is the digitalisation process of transport networks and infrastructure. If fully implemented, this could better integrate road, rail, air and waterborne travel into a seamless logistics chain across Europe.

The sustainability of urban logistics is a challenge for rapidly growing cities worldwide. Sharing is a big story for logistics – from Uber-style approaches to last-mile delivery, to more formal joint ventures and partnerships at corporate level. The whole sector is redefining collaboration through change, but is still hampered by inconsistencies in everything from shipment sizes to processes and IT systems. Large e-commerce players as well as various start-ups view last mile services as a key differentiator from their competitors. Services are in competition for traffic lanes and parking spaces as well as being vulnerable to other disruptions, like traffic accidents, traffic jams or weather.

Services will need an active data exchange and an open location platform to host the appropriate data. ‘New digitized innovations and services will require collaboration since nobody can do this alone,’ says Mika Rytkonen CEO behind data driven solution HERE Tracking. ‘New innovations, such as HERE Tracking, automated vehicles or active traffic management, are entering the market and are all powered by data. ERTICO with its innovative platforms will play a key role in driving industry collaboration to make transportation smarter.’ One of these platforms is ERTICO’s TM 2.0 that enhances logistical efficiencies by providing better insight into highly congested delivery areas such as rails and ports.

Also key to meeting these daunting challenges will be improving the way that elements in the freight and logistics chain communicate with each other and exchange data. This is particularly true for highly congested hubs such as ports. ERTICO, a public-private partnership that develops, promotes and deploys Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS), understands the key importance of improving interoperability and connectivity when it comes to optimising cargo flows and streamlining supply chain management.

ERTICO has set itself the goal of achieving fully digital, interoperable and automated freight and logistics operations in Europe by 2025 and seamless logistics and freight transport by 2030. With this goal in mind the partnership has recently announced its intention to develop the new LogistiX hub for a trusted data exchange in supply chain and logistics.

Dr. Johanna Tzanidaki, Director of Innovation and Deployment at ERTICO, said: ‘The LogistiX hub will be a knowledge and business incubation centre, which will help companies to become more competitive with regards to logistics and supply chain services using digital technologies. Offering a catalogue of leading edge ideas, solutions, networks and compliance testing it will enable the optimisation of international end-to-end data visibility of the supply chain.’ The LogistiX hub will be formally launched at the ITS Congress in Copenhagen in September 2018.

Leveraging the state-of-the-art

To achieve fully digital and interoperable freight and logistics chains it will be necessary to leverage cutting-edge technologies and solutions, for example autonomous mobility and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). But the greatest impact in this area will undoubtedly come from exploiting synergies between ICT solutions, such as 5G, IoT, end-to-end visibility networks and blockchain.

ICT platform connectivity is a core consideration of ERTICO’s AEOLIX project. This project is developing a digital ecosystem to better manage, plan and synchronise freight and logistics operations across Europe. AEOLIX will improve the overall competitiveness of goods transport in the supply chain by enabling low-complexity and low-cost connectivity of local ICT platforms and systems. It will also overcome fragmentation of data exchange and ensure scalability, interoperability and visibility across the supply chain. The resulting automation of the data flow between logistic chain stakeholders will make management of their relationships more flexible, supporting an improved workflow across companies.

The improved connectivity that the project will deliver will enable the scalable, trusted and secure exchange of information. This, in turn, will improve the overall competitiveness of goods transport in the supply chain and make it more environmentally, economically and socially sustainable. Improved connectivity will also support cooperative ITS solutions, which will also improve logistics operations by generating real-time traffic information, allowing better tracking and tracing of goods.
