Giorgos Oikonomou holds an MSc degree in Data Science and Machine Learning from NTUA (with Onassis Foundation’s postgraduate scholarship), an MSc degree in Materials Science and Technology from NTUA (with Latsis Foundation’s postgraduate scholarship) and a Diploma in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering from NTUA.
His main interests and experience are related to Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Corrosion Prevention, Coatings and Metallurgy.
The diploma’s thesis and MS&T master’s thesis were related to the development of inorganic-organic coatings using graphene oxide to protect against corrosion of aluminum alloy used in the aviation industry. The DS&ML master’s thesis concerned the creation of a fully balanced (for 30 types of military aircrafts) dataset from satellite images and the subsequent application of deep learning models (YOLO and customized) using PyTorch to detect each aircraft and identify its type within these images.
