Cooperative vehicles and road infrastructure for road safety
SAFESPOT is an integrated project co-funded by the European Commission Information Society Technologies among the initiatives of the 6th Framework Program. This project is working on designing cooperative systems for road safety based on vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication. SAFESPOT is aiming at preventing road accidents by developing a Safety Margin Assistant to detect in advance potentially dangerous situations and extend, in space and time, drivers’ awareness of the surrounding environment, exploiting wireless communications.
The ITS group of ICCS is involved in the data fusion activities of the project. More specifically it is working on the situation refinement algorithms. Additionally, it is the responsible for the dissemination management of the project.
